In 2026, MAAT will celebrate ten years of existence. These ten years have been underpinned by more than two decades of consistent practice in producing exhibitions, awarding prizes and promoting contemporary art collecting; of museum experience, and of restoration and preservation of industrial and documentary heritage.

But they are also ten years marked by a forward-looking approach — a period in which MAAT consolidated its international ambition, strengthened its presence among diverse audiences, both national and international, among schoolchildren, specialists, and the general public, and established a central presence among the main highlights and reviews of cultural and artistic life.

The symbolic achievement of this decade of activity inspired the definition of the programme for 2026: a programme that continues the curatorial lines of recent years, deepening its different aspects and characteristics, and proposing new cultural offerings. We will present Portuguese artists of recognised international prestige and foreign artists of unquestionable relevance in defining contemporary 2 art. Individual and collective exhibitions — accompanied by a reinforced public programme — will address themes essential to understanding our times, ranging from reflection on the common future of humanity to a critical revisiting of our collective past
