Manuel João Vieira’s work is provocative in its technique, its use of colour, and its blending of formal temporalities. A wide range of figures, bizarre beings and symbols give rise to unexpected compositions. The narratives are often humorous, at other times enigmatic, bringing together references to literature, history and mythology, among other fields.
Such a diversity of references and interpretative approaches makes the guided visit to Manuel João Vieira – The Purple Island: Notes and Landscapes a privileged space for mediation and interpretation.
Guided visits to MAAT’s temporary exhibitions are conceived as informal spaces for experimentation that foster knowledge and dialogue, inviting visitors to take on an active role within a shared experience of responsibility.
