During this tour, the two curators of the exhibition Central Tejo Carpentry Workshop, 1936-2013 will show visitors one of the key areas of the Central Tejo industrial complex, whose activity was crucial to the operation of the country's largest power station for several decades. Part of the workshop complex, the Carpentry occupied one of the buildings at Central Tejo from 1936 onwards, ensuring the maintenance and production of components essential to the power station's activity.
The exhibition brings together original documents, tools, and work equipment such as workbenches, saws, planes, chisels, and hammers, which bear witness to the intense activity of this industrial space. Abandoned in the 1970s, the Carpentry Workshop took on a new role at the beginning of the twenty-first century as a space for artistic experimentation, marking the beginning of the EDP Foundation's relationship with contemporary art.
Closing definitively in 2013, with its demolition to make way for the MAAT, this exhibition is part of the Light Everywhere series, dedicated to promoting the EDP Foundation's historical heritage, combining objects and technical documentation with works from its art collection.
