In this workshop we will put our tools to work to build a battery-powered boat, learning step by step how to build an electrical circuit and how it works. Through this experience we will explore basic concepts of electricity in a simple and fun way. We will also learn about renewable energy sources, with a special focus on solar energy, learning how the sun can be used as a source of energy.

The workshop will take place in an old factory that produced electricity for the city of Lisbon in the 20th century, which we will have the opportunity to visit. At the end, we will see the results of our work in practice by participating in an exciting competition where the boats will be put to the test.

In the past, it was only through drawings and paintings that we captured reality: artists showed us portraits of people, places and their stories. With the arrival of photography, painting and drawing no longer needed to portray reality, so they had to find new themes and spaces for action. Based on Jeff Wall's exhibition, we're going to stage images and think about photography and the truth of the image. We'll explore compositions, narratives and have fun creating stories for the camera.  

We'll write with light; investigate time in photography; record and decompose movements; discover and experiment with performance for the camera; and explore discursiveness from the static image.

We'll develop robotic mechanisms and systems that allow us to express ourselves artistically through drawing, sound, light and movement. Inspired by the exhibitions on show at MAAT, we will explore the concepts, themes and challenges that the works suggest through the creation of robotic instruments powered by the algorithms we will create. Creative machines that draw, react, produce sounds, and help us understand the world around us. We will learn from and marvel at the unexpected, error and uncertainty.
