This summer, MAAT opens its doors to a laboratory of ideas where everything can be built, taken apart and reinvented. The workshops challenge children and young people to think with their hands — exploring robotics and mechanics as if they were superpowers, while drawing inspiration from the museum's works and outdoor spaces to imagine drawing, collage, photography and countless stories waiting to be told. Workshops designed to discover that the best way to understand the world is to experience it.

Workshops
LET'S RACE!
29 June to 03 July 2026 | MAAT Central
Science workshop | With Tiago Serôdio
In a real workshop environment, with wood, tools and everything needed to build in earnest — screwdrivers, pliers, hammers — participants are challenged to assemble their own car step by step, until they see it come to life. They will discover how an electrical circuit works and understand how electricity and mechanics join forces to set the wheels in motion. At the end, the cars go home with those who built them.
ROUTE: EARTH, SPACE, IMAGINATION
13 to 17 de July 2026 | MAAT Gallery
Art Workshop | Concept and guidance: Fabrícia Valente
Travelling through the spaces of the MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology is to uncover memories, materials and events that may place us in a poetic labyrinth of numerous narratives. We invite you to explore with us the curiosities of the museum’s architecture: secret places, special windows onto the landscape, and some of the secrets behind its construction. In our activity, we will also connect the temporary exhibitions with the route we will create, in a kind of map-archive where your experiences, the gathering of images and materials, and the stories you develop from each situation become essential elements. In this summer workshop, photography, drawing, collage and the performative action of the body are key ingredients for us to travel creatively between the Earth, space and imagination.
MAAT IN SIGHT! CONTEMPORARY ART WORKSHOP
27 to 31 July 2026 | MAAT Gallery
Art Workshop | Concept and guidance: Patrícia Trindade
Can we travel in a museum? Go outside while being inside?
When we travel, we like to get lost in the landscape, drift and immerse ourselves in the unknown. In this experimental workshop, we explore the mountains and oceans of the Turn around. A look at the EDP Foundation Arte Collection exhibition as a means to map the art of our time - tracing constellations and exploring ancient myths, through model-making and games with dots and lines. Among found, lost and rediscovered objects, we will uncover and explore the processes and techniques of the artists featured in this collection, experimenting with creativity, playing without fear, and embracing error and failure, because when we depart, what matters is not the final destination, but the journey itself.

LIVING FORMS – ART, PLANTS AND PRINTING
31 August to 04 September 2026 | MAAT Gallery & MAAT Garden
Art Workshop | Concept and guidance: Susana Anágua
In our garden, there are shapes hidden in the leaves, colours kept in the petals, and patterns that only appear under the sunlight.
Living Forms – Art, Plants and Printing is a five-day workshop for children aged 7 to 13 where nature becomes ink, stamp and inspiration. Throughout the week, we will paint with plants, dye fabrics using natural colours, experiment with silk screen printing, and discover magical images through cyanotype. Through games, experiments and creative making, each participant is invited to observe, touch, imagine and create – like a young scientist exploring the arts.
Here, geometry lives in the forms of plants, patterns arise from chance, and each discovery opens the door to new ideas.
At the end, the garden becomes an open-air gallery, where colours, fabrics and images tell the story of a week of nature, curiosity and invention.
