When MAAT closes, a world opens for MAAT Friends
MAAT opens its doors exclusively for MAAT Friends on the last Wednesday of each month, extending access for one hour after closing to the public. MAAT Friends After Hours offers in-depth guided tours, exploring exhibitions in detail in an intimate setting. This is a moment for discovery, idea exchange, and connection—with the artworks, the space, and the people sharing this unique experience.
The third session will take place on 26/03/2025 and includes a guided tour of Transe, by Rui Moreira and Gestos, by Ana Léon. A special opportunity to explore in detail the MAAT’s two latest exhibitions.
The visit is limited to the first 30 participants who confirm their attendance here. MAAT Friend +1 cardholders may bring a guest free of charge.

About Transe
This is Rui Moreira’s first anthological exhibition, bringing together around 80 drawings and paintings on paper, as well as a large-scale sculpture. His works, with intense yet restrained colors, oscillate between abstraction and figuration, revealing absolute perfectionism and a demanding, meticulous creative process. The artist seeks to develop his works in states of deep immersion, exposing himself to extreme physical and emotional experiences - from the scorching heat of the Moroccan desert to the pagan rituals of the caretos in Trás-os-Montes, as well as exhausting marathon sessions in the studio. His compositions evoke symbolic elements and gestures that bridge cultures and eras - from Islamic art to Hindu mandalas, from Amazonian landscapes to the literature of Proust and Cormac McCarthy - striking a balance between precision and intuition that challenges the viewer’s perception.
About Gestos
Ana Léon explores movement and repetition through drawing and stop-motion animation, using analog technology and articulated figures. In short films of minimal, cyclical gestures with no explicit narrative, nearly indistinguishable male characters perform repetitive actions, creating an atmosphere of alienation and bodily mechanization. The stripped-down aesthetics and absence of individuality reinforce the almost hypnotic quality of her work, where repetition becomes a language and gestures turn into visual echoes, challenging perception and the boundaries of animation.
We look forward to seeing you!
