The work of Anna Maria Maiolino, a contemporary Brazilian artist born in Italy who emigrated to South America at a young age, spans drawing, sculpture, film, poetry and performance to explore themes such as migration, language, identity and memory.
In a world première at MAAT, this session presents an excerpt from the documentary series The Forgotten Her Story, a research-based publishing initiative dedicated to recovering and amplifying the stories of women whose cultural impact has often gone unrecognised.
At the heart of the project are intimate conversations between women, held at home or in the studio. In this excerpt, Anna Maria Maiolino speaks with curator Tânia Rivera, who has contributed a text to the exhibition catalogue. Through these exchanges, The Forgotten Her Story builds a living archive of experiences and knowledge where the everyday and the artistic intertwine and where these stories can be shared in the first person.
