Counterquestion
UBI in rehearsals to answer questions on the CityMAAT programme

CityMAAT – Architecture of an Out of Doors Museum emerged in the context of the first lockdown of the current pandemic. Promoting the debate between the disciplinary areas that the museum embraces and the need for new cultural dynamics, eight panels of guests left us with eight questions that reflect restlessness of the cultural moment and the role of the museum in its relationship with the city. Thinking what a place of freedom is; questioning new words and movements that will emerge after the pandemic; and debating the public space as an engine of cultural diversity are some of the premises that, for a semester, first-year students of architecture at UBI (University of Beira Interior), coordinated by professors Andreia Garcia, Filipe Lacerda Neto, Inês Campos and Pedro Seixo Rodrigues, worked in a laboratory exercise of answers, giving us back counter-questions. The students’ trials take place during the second lockdown, and whether they are questioning working in network or the (in)ability of a response from a more dreamlike and utopian universe, they are all a product of the current context. Andreia Garcia, Fabrícia Valente and Sérgio Fazenda Rodrigues come together for a debate, in a new layer of the CityMAAT programme, now between the museum's informal universe and the academic context.
