Art

Art workshop: maat in Motion
With Patrícia Trindade 
We are going to explore the new maat 2020 and its new spaces and new stories through our bodies and drawing. We will see, hear, feel and draw: scribble, doodle, make cuttings and take it all for a walk. Via little big challenges, we invite you to swap your perspective and to make drawings move from multiple points of view. 
Ages: 6–14 years old

Residency for young people: Artlab
A programme of interdisciplinary, experimental and immersive work that explores the intersections between the visual and performance arts, technology, design and architecture. In a close dialogue  with  the  exhibitions  on  display  at  the museum and the various stakeholders involved — artists, curators, educators and specialized technicians, Artlab was created to highlight processes that explore each participant’s personal world and their relationship with space, time, society, the museum and contemporary art.
Ages: 16–22 years old. Admission: free (selection of applications)

Architecture and Design 

Architecture workshop: Discover maat
With Renato Santos
Embark on a real voyage of discovery of the museum. Old and new worlds you will find, filled with new “things” to explore. Join this orienteering adventure and solve all of its mysteries and challenges... At the end, you will produce a big map of this adventure in the museum.
Ages: 4–8 years old. Duration: 120 minutes

Science+

Science workshop: Toy Solar Cars
No driving licence? No problem! Can sunlight be transformed into movement? In this workshop, come and build a solar-powered car and drive it in a thrilling race. Who will make the best car and win the challenge? We dare you to try!

  • Every Saturday: 11.30–12.30

Science workshop: Don’t Wake the Dragon
A sleeping dragon awaits your visit. Will you manage to walk past him without waking him up? In this workshop, come play and learn about electrical energy. Using wires, screws and screwdrivers, you will get to build a simple electric circuit. Then you will test it in a challenge of skill and concentration to avoid waking up the dragon!

Science workshop: The Magic of Electromagnets
What is an electromagnet? Is it a magic trick? Or does it have a scientific explanation?Find out what an electromagnet is, how it is built and what's useful for. At the end of the activity, your knowledge is tested in a very fun game.

  • Every Sunday: 16.00–17.00

Science workshop: How strong is a balloon?
Can you believe a balloon has the energy to drive a car? Come and learn how to build a car with common materials and you'll see how much power a simple balloon can have.

  • 10 e 24 outubro: 16.00–18.00

Science workshop: Who knows mechanics?
This is a workshop that requires skill, attention to detail and teamwork. In the museum, the group is challenged to discover and solve a mechanical breakdown in order to get a car running. This activity includes a visit to the Power Station Circuit, which shows the history of the Central Tejo.

Green

Green workshop: The Hidden Side of Nature

If you look at the nature around you, what do you see? Now close your eyes and imagine your eyes following the ground, climbing tree trunks and rocks and coming across a small insect on a plant that has just germinated. Suddenly, the world turns into a mysterious and incredibly beautiful place which we are proud of being part of and really want to protect. Based on the environment around us, let’s explore the mysteries of nature and use them to develop an artistic activity you can take home with you.

Programa Necessidades Educativas Especiais

O maat oferece um programa integrado de ações criativas destinado à população portadora de deficiência e/ou doença mental. Partindo das exposições patentes, estas ações criativas exploram o espaço museológico e a vertente oficinal, como intuito de gerar respostas pessoais e criar espaços de diálogo, experimentação e partilha, na esperança de que a terapêutica seja conquistada em conjunto e sentida por cada um.

Visita-oficina: Atlas do Eu
Com Hugo Barata e Joana Andrade
Partindo da transversalidade de linguagens e dos universos criativos dos artistas contemporâneos, esta visita-oficina desafiam os participantes a conhecer melhor os espaços do maat. Utilizando no terreno diferentes expressões artísticas, do desenho à pintura, da fotografia ao vídeo, da expressão corporal à instalação artística. O conjunto de ações a realizar pode variar de acordo com as características específicas de público, e focam-se também em turmas mistas, incluídas no ensino integrado.
Duração: 60 minutos

Party maat Kids

Fun and educational creativity workshops where participants are invited to explore the museum's exhibitions and engage in an activity that ends with a party.

Anniversary: Checkmaat

Checkmate is a final move in a game of chess, but here it is just the start of a really fun party! On this giant board full of special houses, you and your friends are the key pieces! You can be king, queen, rook, bishop, knight or pawn because there is room for many more than just two players! Move after move you have to overcome a range of challenges to be the one celebrating at the end. Who will checkmate who? Come and find out!

Anniversary: Drawing Outside The Box

Do you like to draw? You and your friends are going to design this party! Release your hands, let your pencil fly and draw inside the museum. We are going to challenge ourselves to draw “outside the box” – to look at what is around us in new ways. Venture into the museum with your friends at this party designed especially for you!

Invite all your friends to embark on a true adventure to discover the museum. To find old and new worlds, filled of “things” to explore! Come and participate in this peddy-paper and solve all its mysteries and challenges… to find where your party is! In the end, create a big map of this journey of adventures in the museum with the help of all your guests.
